The New Farm is a beautiful community space that offers a unique environment where people come together to engage in an eclectic mix of activities.  We are located in the Bayview district of San Francisco, across from Heron’s Head Park, on Port of SF property.  We share a space with Bay Natives Nursery and Heron’s Head Nursery, and are direct neighbors with the City Grazing goats.

The New Farm can accommodate a variety of activities including celebrations, memorials, birthday parties, and music performances, with a special emphasis on giving young people a place to express their musical creativity.  Our visitors reflect the racial, ethnic, and age diversity of San Francisco.

The New Farm is the main program of Green City Project, a 501(c) nonprofit, and an offshoot of Planet Drum Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving our environment for over 50 years.

Entrance to The New Farm in San Francisco

The New Farm is a non-commercial space run completely by volunteers. Its use is not based on an ability to pay, but rather a space where people are free to do their own thing, without having to worry about the cost. This has resulted in an amazing display of human creativity that includes free concerts, art exhibits, as well as hands-on environmental and artistic education to the community at large. We’re grateful to those people whose generous donations have helped to keep The New Farm going.

We have just begun to realize our full  potential as a community space for environmental education and cultural programming. One of our biggest events was 2024’s Earth Day San Francisco, held at The New Farm in April. Click here to view a video introduction to The New Farm from 2021. Click to read an SFGate.com article, also from 2021.

Our mission is to create a model where the community and the natural world can come together. ~ Andy Pollack, New Farm Executive Director

If the goal is moving the culture gradually toward living Earth Day every day, The New Farm is a model example of an organization who lives it and breathes it every day of the year. ~ Douglas Kolberg, Earth Day San Francisco Producer

The New Farm is a testament to the alternative lifestyles of an earlier San Francisco, one that had space for artists and creators and those looking to live a little differently.

The inspiration and model for farm organizers was and is the Crossroads Community, The Farm, which thrived in San Francisco from 1974 to 1987. Founders Bonnie Sherk (a noted San Francisco artist) and Jack Wickert created a community center which brought the country to the city.

Impressions of The New Farm

This free, community-driven educational event and music space is a true hidden gem, a slice of life from the city before my time. A renaissance of underground punk and hippie philosophy mesh into a place where you can actively participate and build a community at one of the coolest homes away from home.
~ Andrew Gefre

I want future generations to be able to enjoy spaces such as this. ~ Peter Shepherd
